ACEM’sState of Emergency 2022 report found the state had more than 1.8 million presentations over 2020-21,the equivalent of 369 presentations per 1000 people.
That was a 30 per cent increase since 2016-17 and the highest increase of any state and territory in the same period.
ACEM Queensland deputy chair Dr Shantha Raghwan said the problem was complex, with no simple solution, but any attempt to rectify it needed to start immediately.
“In Queensland we really need to acknowledge that demand for emergency department care has gone up exponentially and continues to increase,” she said.
“This is a system that is not growing.
“The resources are not increasing at the rate that demand requires.”
