The $371 million system,set to bring Brisbane into line with Sydney,was announced in the state’s 2018 budget and expected to be delivered in four years.
First appearing on Gold Coast light rail in late 2020,a Brisbane-based trial onlylaunched in June. From Monday,it will be running on six of the south-east rail network’s 10 lines.
The system is expected to be in place on the remaining lines “this year”,Transport Minister Mark Bailey said.
“More than 360,000 trips have been taken on heavy rail since the launch a few months ago.”

Go Cards can still be used,and are required for children,concession cardholders,and anyone travelling onto other lines or connecting bus services. The system is expected to be extended to ferries and buses next year.
However,commuters will be left waiting longer yet for the long-delayed $1.3 billioneastern busway extension to Capalaba — which stalled at Coorparoo after the 2011 floods.
