“The broadcasting of nine matches across three venues – including regional ones – featuring double headers in one city is something that has never been done before,and we have worked closely with our broadcast partners to build a schedule that can not only work for crowds,but also viewers at home who can’t travel to South Australia.”

Each club will pocket about $500,000,and much of this will be spent on football departments,while players will also be rewarded through their collective bargaining agreement.

The new round means there will be one fewer pre-season match,the AFL raising the idea of the new round after watching how intense the final practice match had become,for no financial or premiership points gain.

McLachlan last month said the round will be rotated,with NSW and Western Australia also in line to host from 2024.

The full 24-round fixture will be released on Sunday. Rounds one to 15 will have full match information on venues and times,with the latter rounds to have details confirmed later in the season.
