Although the federal government has provided some guarantees for the Games,the budget noted the financial implications of that support were “not quantifiable at this time”.

Only Queensland,which gained tens of thousands of new residents from other states and territories during the COVID-19 pandemic,will gain more.
The federal government uses state population projections to distribute funding between the states and territories,with Victoria’s overall population expected to climb by about 150,000 over the next financial year.
With Victoria on track to record a $9.7 billion deficit in 2022-23,Premier Daniel Andrews vowed to “lobby,push,pressure,advocate and put a good-quality case to the Commonwealth government for more and more support”.
In recent years,Andrews repeatedly complained about being ripped off by Coalition governments through infrastructure and GST carve-ups.
