The house was badly damaged but police say the man and woman were uninjured.
“It is believed a number of shots were fired towards the home causing extensive damage to the front of the residence,” a police spokesperson said.
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said detectives would examine whether a previous occupant of the home had been the intended target.
“The two people who were there,I understood, are completely innocent persons, who are very scared as a result of the shooting,” Patton said.
“It’s very early days in the Craigieburn shooting that’s occurred early this morning.”
The Craigieburn shooting occurred less than 24 hours after another suburban drive-by shooting in Melbourne’s south-east.
