Television crews, including the Danish broadcaster DK Nyheder and the BBC,are planning live crosses from the spot, thought to be near the front bar of the 130-year-old maritime pub on Sussex Street, where the royal romance began.
“It’s crazy,” said a staff member from Merivale, which owns the hotel.
Usually Mexican-themed,the pub will go DenMex – Danish meets Mexican – to honour the future queen of Denmark, who will be crowned alongside her husband Crown Prince Frederik in Copenhagen on Sunday.
Staff have invented a special cocktail,There’s Something About Mary. It is a mix of the Danish spirit Aquavit with Absolut Vodka, lychee, lemon, vanilla and aquafaba, and will be served in the red and white colours of Denmark’s flag.
The Merivale-owned hotel will also offer a traditional style of Danish hot dog, with french fries, for $22.
Slip Inn and El Loco Venues executive chef Tal Buchnik was fine-tuning the dish on Thursday night.
