“Having someone like Teddy come in,he’s experienced every part of Origin and he’s been in all the[selection] discussions I’ve had up to now,” Maguire told this masthead.

“His knowledge of pretty much all these players,he’s obviously been around this playing group for so long,it’s invaluable.

“Dylan and Teddy play a similar game, they’re both super-fit and understand and excel at pretty much every part of the game.

“It’s really gut-wrenching for Dylan. He’s such a great bloke and the way that he’s trained and been a part of the squad, that makes it so hard.

“It’s shattering for a player when they’ve worked so hard like Dylan has and he’s been one of the leading players in the comp for such a long time. But he’s handled it the way you’d expect Dylan to handle it.

“And I’ve been comfortable with it all to be honest, because having Teddy there, both players are so passionate about playing for the Blues. So I’m very lucky and fortunate that I’ve got two players so committed and play a similar style,so we can move on and get stuck in.”

Tedesco’s return to the NSW fold required approval from the ARL Commission given the late change and the fact Tedesco was not part of Maguire’s original 20-man squad.

He will have just one ball work session with NSW on Monday to adjust to Maguire’s game plan and a new-look spine of Jarome Luai,Nicho Hynes and Reece Robson.

Edwards will remain in Blues camp as the side shifts to Olympic Park on Sunday but he is expected to be out for at least two weeks.

The Roosters coughed up a 12-point lead without their skipper, with coach Trent Robinson conceding replacement fullback Joey Manu was well below his best amid the late upheaval. But he and stand-in captain Luke Keary still wouldn’t have it any other way for Tedesco.

“It’s a hard one when Madge called yesterday, you have to go through all the changes that are going to happen to your team,” Robinson said.

“But the simplicity of it is that you’re really happy for James. You have players, you want them to play in Origin, and we all felt for him this week. Dylan deserved his spot but we all felt for James as well because he’s been playing outstanding footy.

“He’s desperate to play any rep footy he can. He loves pulling on the blue jersey and the Australian jersey, the overriding emotion was ‘great,I can’t wait to watch him play’.”

Maguire confirmed Hynes is now a certain starter against Queensland having managed a calf strain that kept him out of training at the start of the week. Keary will return to Blues camp given the Roosters have the bye next week but is not expecting to partake in anything more than opposed sessions after being on standby for the Sharks star to begin the NSW campaign.
