“Artists are absolutely busting to play live,’’ he says. “On a brighter side,a number of artists have had very creative bursts. I know there has been some great songwriting being done,here and overseas.
“The positive is that when we start slowly coming out of it,it will give great Australian acts a chance to shine. Music isn’t just about number-one artists and pop artists or big alternative artists. There are so many different styles of music that can work under different circumstances. There will be a way out.’’

Gudinski,the founder of the Mushroom Group and arguably,the most influential figure in contemporary Australian music,spoke toThe Age as part of a series of stories in which prominent Melburnians offer constructive ideas about Victoria’s way forward.
He says it is difficult to see a time when the big international acts will return to venues like Rod Laver Arena. His contacts in Los Angeles tell him that major venues like The Forum and the Staples Centre are not talking about bookings until the second half of 2021.
He points to the The Factory Theatre in Sydney’s Marrickville as an example of what can be done in the meantime to restart the local music scene.
