E. coli (Escherichia coli)is a group of bacteria that lives in the gastrointestinal tract of almost all people and animals,but someE. coli bacteria can cause serious infections,including diarrhoea,stomach ache,nausea and vomiting that usually lasts less than five to 10 days,according to NSW Health.

E. coli can also cause urinary tract infections,and some strains can cause serious illnesses such as pneumonia,meningitis in newborn babies,and inflammation of the gallbladder,known as cholecystitis.
