Man charged after allegedly stabbing co-worker outside Sydney council depot

A man has been charged after allegedly stabbing a co-worker multiple times outside a council facility in Sydney's inner-south.

About 2pm on Tuesday police were called to an industrial site at Bourke Road in Alexandria after reports a man had been stabbed.

A team of street sweepers were finishing their shift when a fight broke out.

Five crews of paramedics,including a critical care doctor,treated the 22-year-old man for multiple stab wounds to his face,neck and arms.

He was given blood on the scene before he was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital in a critical condition,a NSW Ambulance spokesman said.

A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Mascot police station where he was questioned. On Tuesday night he was formally charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A police spokeswoman said the men were colleagues.

A City of Sydney spokeswoman said the attack occurred on land adjacent to the council's Alexandria Canal depot,a transport,waste and maintenance facility thatopened last year.

On Tuesday night a hospital spokesman said the injured man remained in a serious but stable condition.

The accused was refused bail to appear in Central Local Court on Wednesday.
