“For decades, jet streams have been part of our logo, and that continues in the new brandmark through the ‘ribbons’ you see, although there’s a greater sense of motion and freedom now,” she said.

“And the colours of the ribbons reflect the transformation from land, over sea to sky, mirroring the experience of taking off for a flight.”

Despite being front and centre of the rebrand,Whyte said it probably would not mean a lot to passengers, whose impression of the airport would come from their own travelling experience.

“But the logo does have an impact on our own people, the nearly 20,000 people who work on site, and our partners,” she said.

“Our old logo was quite corporate and business-like,which was exactly what was needed back in the early aughts, but today we want to signal a sense of anticipation, excitement and the limitless possibilities that aviation brings.

“We think our new logo does that.”

The logo was formally adopted on Wednesday morning, but Whyte said it would probably take some time before the transformation was complete.

“We’ve been working towards this for a number of years – removing former logos from the many and varied locations across the airport,” she said.

“For a while there was literally a logo on everything, and there’s still some vintage logos in the deepest darkest corners – we’re having some fun with the Brisbane Airport teams to help us sleuth them all out.

“...There are hundreds of logos across the airport which need changing and I’m sure I’ll be discovering ones we’ve missed for years to come.”

Brisbane Airport is in the midst of a major upgrade to security screening areas at both the international and domestic terminals, along with changes to passenger movement.

The changes will result inthe loss of the international terminals famous golden gateway, featured in social media posts of departing passengers,to be replaced by a 7.5-metre “departures beacon”.
