Teen arrested after brandishing knife inside NSW MP’s office

A 19-year-old man is in custody after he arrived at a NSW MP’s office brandishing a knife and other weapons after earlier distributing a disturbing manifesto which contained neo-Nazi material to media and public figures.

The teenager was arrested after arriving at the office of Labor Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp about 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Police say the teenager had “knives and tactical equipment”.

“Following further inquiries officers became aware of the existence of a document that had been circulated to a number of public figures and media outlets,” a police statement said.

The police statement did not detail what was contained in the document,however,sources who have been briefed but not permitted to speak publicly say it contained neo-Nazi material.

The police statement said:“The public is reminded under Section 93Z Crimes Act 1900 (NSW) it is an offence to distribute or disseminate material threatening or inciting violence on grounds of race,religion,sexual orientation,gender identity or intersex or HIV/AIDS status.“

Crakanthorp later issued a statement.

“I understand that there was an incident in Newcastle today,” he said.

“I have spoken with police and they are managing the situation and have assured me that nobody was harmed.

“I have been advised that the individual briefly walked in and out of my office,he left before making any contact with my staff.”
