A man has been rushed to a medical post after being bitten in the leg by a shark at a holiday spot in Western Australia’s north-west.
Cameron Wrathall was swimming at Blackwall Reach in Bicton on January 14 when the attack occurred.
Surfers Paradise beach was closed by lifesavers after a shark was seen attacking a pool of bait fish offshore.
A nearby paddleboarder and kayakers rescued the swimmer by pulling him onto a board after hearing screams and seeing blood in the water.
Officers used their Glock pistols in an effort to deal with the threat posed by the animal when it remained close to shore after the attack and believe they hit it twice.
A surfer remains missing off the coast of Esperance,with local police saying on Friday afternoon the chances of survival were"obviously pretty slim".
The man is in hospital recovering.
Police believe they know the species of shark responsible after preliminary examinations of a tooth from Nick Slater's surfboard.
Nick Slater,46,was mauled on the leg off Greenmount Beach. He was a local realtor,surfer,paddle boarder and cyclist.
