The only human who has ever run a sub-2 hour marathon has been signed as the marquee star for Sydney Marathon in August,in its inaugural race as a World Major race.
The Sydney Marathon received eight times the amount of international applicants from the year before,but with overwhelming interest,some locals have missed out.
After a three-year candidacy,Sydney was on Monday named an Abbott World Marathon Major alongside New York,London,Tokyo,Boston,Chicago and Berlin.
African stars and an Aussie Paralympic champion claimed victories as a record 25,000 runners laced up for the Sydney marathon.
Sydney is on the cusp of joining New York,London and Berlin as one of the world’s biggest marathons.
