Given the culinary competition faced by Cessnock from its wine country surrounds,pubs like Peden's have stepped up a level in the sophistication of the menu,along with the prices - closer to the inner city than a regional hotel. The steaks and lamb shanks are as good as you'd expect from the Hunter Valley,but Peden's also has a reputation for its wood-fire pizzas featuring toppings such as prawns,spinach and chicken,as well as the classics.
