Morrison was not in the vehicle and was not involved in the accident.
The crash happened on the Bass Highway near Elizabeth Town,as the prime minister’s entourage was travelling from a campaign event in Longford to another in Burnie.
The unmarked police car rolled over the steep verge on the edge of the road, after it collided with a Mitsubishi Triton ute.
“Circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated, however initial enquiries indicate that the Triton has collided with the rear of the police vehicle, while attempting to merge,” Tasmania Police said in a statement.
A spokesman for the prime minister said all four security officers were conscious when transferred to hospital and the driver of the other vehicle was not injured. Tasmania Police said they had “non-life-threatening injuries”.
“The PM is always extremely grateful for the protection provided by his security team and extends his best wishes for their recovery and to their families,” Morrison’s spokesman said.
Media following the prime minister’s campaign passed the accident while also travelling between events.
