The acts of vandalism took place at polling booths at Elwood,St Kilda,Albert Park,Port Melbourne and Middle Park.
Magistrate Ann Collins described their actions as"one stupid mistake"and told them on Friday they should respect the right to freedom of expression and the rule of law.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court heard that the men had been recruited to put up promotional material for the Labor party at polling sites in the marginal seat of Melbourne Ports, held by Labor MP and Shorten ally Michael Danby.
The men,who police earlier said were carrying box cutters, arrived to find that other parties had taken up available space with their own material.
Ms Collins allowed the men to escape criminal convictions, instead ordering them to pay $1000 each to the court fund. The fund, which goes to charity, was used for"people far worse off than yourselves,"she said. Their lawyers previously suggested a $500 fine be imposed.
She said"gentlemen of your standing"should not have engaged in conduct that was"clearly against the law".
