Vajiralongkorn acceded to the throne in December following the death of his father,King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The partly Australian-educated prince, who has had three high-profile divorces, spent much of his time living in Germany prior to his return home.

Thailand's telecommunications regulator gave Facebook until Tuesday toremove 131 web addresses it said were in breach of the country's strict lese-majeste laws which make it illegal to defame, insult or threaten the king.

The threat prompted a flurry of concern throughout Thailand - one of the most Facebook-active countries in Asia - that it would be blocked.

Thailand's Information Communications Technology Ministry temporarily blocked access to Facebook aftera May 2014 coup by the military, prompting an outcry from netizens.
