The warring parties are the two long-time organisers, with one claiming they have been kicked out in favour of a more"corporate"group that runs many of the farmers markets across the inner city.
Abbotsford Convent recently announced it was changing providers from Slow Food Melbourne to Melbourne Farmers Markets after more than a decade of management, sparking a clash between the two, which has resulted in a war of words on social media.
"It's pretty messy ... we don't believe we were treated fairly,"said Alison Peake, president of Slow Food Melbourne.
Both organisations had worked together to put on the market since 2006,but that agreement was terminated by Slow Food Melbourne in 2017 after a falling out between the parties.
Melbourne Farmers Markets disputed the decision, and when Abbotsford Convent asked for proposals to run the food event last year, the organisation applied and was handed the deal.
The issue exploded on social media like a rotten heirloom tomato when an anonymous piece was posted online earlier this year attacking Melbourne Farmers Markets before being taken down.
"It's been extremely upsetting and very disruptive,"said the not-for-profit's founder,Miranda Sharp.
