Department of Youth Justice director-general Bob Gee said an extra 24 beds in the state’s youth detention centres, which became available after recent security upgrades, had helped ease the crisis.
He said one child was being held on remand in Queensland on Wednesday morning,at the Mount Isa watchhouse, while five children had been arrested overnight.

Mr Gee said it was a good day but “we’re definitely not out of the woods yet”.
"If someone is remanded tomorrow,we are very, very hopeful that that young person will move as quickly as possible ... into a detention centre,"he said.
"But I've got to say, numbers go up and down,we had 75 young people on remand in watchhouses across the state earlier in this year.
"Seventy-five to one - that's a great improvement."
