In damage control on Friday night,Mr Taylor conceded the figures"were not correct"but rejected"absolutely the suggestion that I,or any members of my staff, altered the document in question."
Mr Taylor said in a written statement he would be"writing to the lord mayor to offer my apologies for not clarifying those numbers with the City of Sydney before writing to[Cr Moore]."
But a spokesman for Cr Moore said in written comments that Mr Taylor's response did"not explain where the document with the incorrect figures originated".
In an interview with theHerald on Friday,Cr Moore said she"couldn't really believe it"when she received Mr Taylor's letter in September."It was truly shocking because it was so fantastical.
"It made our staff very angry because it was a real attack on their integrity."
Mr Taylor insisted in Parliament that he relied on a document from the council's website when he claimed the council spent $15.9 million on travel for its councillors when the real costs were less than $6000.
