The three-minute ad showed Minogue taking in iconic Australian locations:lying on a towel at Wylie’s Baths in Coogee,practising yoga at Byron Bay and getting nuzzled by a quokka on Western Australia’s Rottnest Island.
In a nod to the role that launched Minogue,the ad also features herNeighbourscharacter Charlene emerging from under a car wearing grimy overalls.
The television premiere ofMatesongfollowed weeks of teaser ads urging British viewers to tune in on Christmas Day to see Kylie’s"message",scheduled for immediately beforethe Queen’s annual speech.
Minogue said she was “elated” to appear in the television commercial,part of Tourism Australia’s"Philausophy"campaign,which sparked lively debate when it waslaunched in October.
“I really hope they love it for a start and relate to it,” Minogue said. “And that it brightens their day and gives them a slightly different outlook and a warm invitation to Australia.”
