Prime Minister Scott Morrison also recognised Andrew O'Swyer and Geoff Keaton,whodied fighting fires in NSW,in his Christmas video.
"I want to thank all those who serve our nation,serving as volunteers fighting those fires as we speak,"Mr Morrison said.
"We think especially of the families of Andrew O'Dwyer and Geoff Keaton,who we lost in the fires recently here in NSW."
Mr Elliott posted:"Gladys and I can't serve Christmas cheer to all 2066 firefighters on the front line today,but we're giving it a crack! Merry Christmas to all those we couldn't get to today. Out state is in your debt."
Michael Elvidge from the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai RFS strike team said Ms Berejiklian spent"a lot of time speaking to individuals and expressed thanks to everybody.
"They've got to do it for work,but it was nice to see them out."
Mr Fitzsimmons said"spirits were high"at fire centres around the state.
"Community volunteers provided food,company,conversation,wrapped presents and hampers to share for crews heading into the field,"Mr Fitzsimmons posted on Twitter.

Olenka Duma,a meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology,said more showers are expected in the state's north-east on Christmas Day and Boxing Day,although Sydneysiders can expect sunnier conditions on Thursday.
"Sydney and the south can expect partly cloudy but mostly sunny conditions,"Ms Duma said.
While there may also be some more rain on Tuesday or Wednesday next week,Ms Duma said the forecast points to mostly dry conditions for the rest of the week.
"Temperatures will increase on Saturday and those temperatures will move across NSW on Sunday,Monday and Tuesday,"Ms Duma said.
Meanwhile in Victoria,firefighters were preparing for heatwave temperatures across the weekend,as six fires remained out of control on Wednesday.
An Emergency Management Victoria spokeswoman said with hot weather and afternoon thunderstorms expected on Friday afternoon,the state would face “elevated fire dangers”,with a top of 41 degrees expected by Monday.
