Ms Berejiklian confirmed that Mr Morrison called her before he made his announcement.

"The Prime Minister contacted me directly shortly before details were released and I was pleased to take the call and welcomed the additional support,"Ms Berejiklian said.

"We are getting reports that the property losses, the damage and destruction,is likely to be numbering in the hundreds as a result of yesterday's fire activity and fire spread."

Mr Fitzsimmons said Saturday was"a very difficult day".

"Once again, can I just commend and praise the extraordinary effort of our men and women, whether they're paid or volunteers, the effort yesterday was quite remarkable,"he said.
