Amazon commissioned the spin-off toPacked to the Rafters to begin filming this year. The show was due to reunite the original cast members including Rebecca Gibney (Julie Rafter),Erik Thomson (Dave) and Hugh Sheridan (Ben).
The show is Amazon's first original scripted drama in Australia,six years afterPacked to the Rafters ended. The new show is being produced by Seven Studios.

It's understood Marais's role will be re-cast as shooting for the show had already begun,although a source said production remained on track.
An Amazon spokesperson wished Marais well:"Seven Studios and Amazon would like to sincerely thank Jessica for her work to date on Back to the Rafters and we fully support Jessica’s decision."
In June 2018 Marais checked herself into The Sydney Clinic for a four-week inpatient treatment,missing the Logie Awards where she was named most popular actress.
