Child protection detectives and government agencies are working to understand the situation that led to two teenagers being discovered naked and malnourished at a home in Brisbane's north this week.
Officers were called to a Midson Street address in Stafford about 7am on Wednesday after reports the body of a 49-year-old man had been found,a police spokesperson said.
After the man suffered a medical episode and a triple zero call was made, first responders found the boys malnourished and naked in a locked bedroom,Nine News reported.
Reports featuring images from the house show the pair, now aged 17 and 19 and being treated in hospital, wearing nappies in a room with a mattress on the floor.
The man's death is not being treated as suspicious, with police now working with other agencies to understand the situation around the boys'care.
"Detectives from Boondall Child Protection Investigation Unit along with other government agencies are working together around the circumstances surrounding the care of two teenage boys with special needs discovered,"the spokesperson said.
Neighbours had tried to help the boys, with one calling Child Safety in February only to be told there was nothing that could be done, the ABC reported.
Addressing media toannounce an independent inquiry into the child safety system's management of the situation on Friday,Child Safety Minister Di Farmer said she was"personally quite distressed"about the"terrible circumstances"the pair were found in.
Ms Farmer refused to say what her department had known of the situation, citing privacy provisions under the Child Protection Act.
