Punchard was sentenced in October 2019 to two months in prison,wholly suspended,with a conviction recorded after pleading guilty to nine counts of computer hacking in relation to the matter last year.
However,after the 54-year-old appealed against the harshness of the penalties,Queensland District Court Judge Craig Chowdhuryset them aside last month and instead ordered the still-suspended officer to complete 140 hours of community service.
The QPS confirmed on September 28 that it would appeal against the reduced sentence.

Court documents show Ms Carroll wants Punchard's appeal and reduced sentence to be set aside.
"The grounds of my application are the learned judge erred in setting aside the sentences at first instance,as those sentences were within sound exercise of the sentencing discretion,"police lawyers submitted on Ms Carroll's behalf.
"The learned judge erred in fettering the sentencing discretion by the results in past cases.
