A result in the election is coming down to narrowing votes in a handful of states,with Democratic contender Joe Biden edging ahead.
In a statement to reporters at the White House,Mr Trump claimed the election was being stolen from him,complained about opinion polls and threatened to take legal action.Fact checks,including by this masthead and Associated Press,found these claims were fabricated.
Mr Albanese called for Mr Morrison to contact Mr Trump and convey Australia's strong view the democratic processes must be respected.

Greens leader Adam Bandt said if the kind of behaviour shown by Mr Trump was happening in any other country,Australia would be intervening.
