With a plan price war in full swing, you can take advantage of some of the lowest prices in years, especially if you are willing to switch providers.
The reasons are twofold.
First, this market always moves fast because data is constantly becoming cheaper,a trend accelerated by our growing demands for streaming and other online activities.
Mobile phone plans are one of the only major household bills with falling prices, and the number of inclusions are increasing.
Second, there is a new network in town. 5G is here (well,in some areas anyhow) and its arrival has put a rocket under existing 4G mobile phone plan prices.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's latest report says prices have dropped by an average 27 per cent over the past three years, while at the same time providing more data.
Five years ago,a gigabyte of phone data cost about $25-$30 a month. Now,it is closer to $2 a month — and prices continue to be halved almost every year. That is why you can now get more than 50GB of data on a mobile plan for just $30,which is what I did recently.
