Australian Border Force data shows Sydney Airport saw 25,409 international arrivals in November and 26,186 in December,including air crew.
NSW Health houses returned travellers who develop coronavirus symptoms,test positive to coronavirus or have other health needs in its dedicated Special Health Accommodation.
The accommodation comprises more than 600 apartments. Different floors are assigned to people who have tested positive,negative or are awaiting a result.
More travellers from the US have tested positive in quarantine during the past eight weeks than the 26 weeks between March 29 and September 30,when 87 recent arrivals from the US were found to have been infected with coronavirus.
During those five months,the bulk of NSW's overseas infections – 109 of 661 – came from Pakistan,where infection rates have declined since a peak in June.
