Biden organised a virtual summit on vaccine sharing on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly where he urged world leaders to do more to vaccinate the world.
In a speech to the summit,Morrison said Australia would share a further 20 million COVID-19 doses and procure an additional 20 million doses to share in the future,in addition to the 20 million doses he promised at the G7 summit in June.
Australia’s doses will be distributed to neighbouring countries in the Indo-Pacific.
“That’s up to 60 million vaccine doses for our region between now and the end of 2022,” Morrison said.
“We will do our part for ending this pandemic and preparing for the future.”
Addressing Biden directly,Morrison said the US President had set ambitious targets to vaccinate the world.
