In a further boost, venues playing host to live music can now trade for an hour longer following recent changes to liquor laws.
While the Inner West Council has nominated an area along Enmore Road, around the Enmore Theatre, the City of Sydney is yet to finalise its preferred location for a special entertainment precinct, which could become a destination for tourists and locals alike.
Candidates in recent council electionsnominated areas around the Metro Theatre on George Street,as well as York,Clarence and Kent streets, for a precinct in Sydney’s CBD.
A spokesman for the City of Sydney said the council would work with the government to find an “appropriate location” for a precinct once guidelines for the program were complete. “We must get the balance right between the interests of businesses and visitors and our local residents,” he said.

Created by bipartisan legal changes last year, the planned precincts are designed to protect residents from excessive noise while shielding live music and performance venues from unreasonable complaints. The Inner West Council voted in May toestablish a precinct along Enmore Road.
Greg Khoury, the executive director of Century Venues, which owns the recentlyrefurbished Enmore Theatre, said the establishment of a precinct along the well-known strip in Enmore would convey an important message to people that it was an area of vibrancy and live music.
