GetUp members are taking their climate action agenda to the voters of Goldstein.
GetUp national director Paul Oosting said Goldstein was the group’s main interest in Victoria as part of a $2.5 million national election campaign, followed by Kooyong, held by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg.
Other seats targeted include those hit by climate-affected disasters or where climate is a key issue, including Macquarie,Eden-Monaro,Gilmore,and Page in regional NSW,Mackellar in Sydney and Ryan in Brisbane.
Oosting said Goldstein was chosen in part because of the group’s many active members in the area, the prominence of climate issues in the election campaign and because of what he described as Wilson’s poor record on climate action.
Wilson is the assistant minister for industry, energy and emissions reduction. He has a long association with climate policy including in his time at the free market think tank, the Institute of Public Affairs.

“We are aiming to see progress on these (climate) issues from whoever forms government,” said Oosting. “We want to send a message that we need urgent action on climate change.”
He outlined a campaign including signage, stalls at shopping centres and “community-based calling parties” where volunteers run call centres contacting Goldstein constituents by phone.
