In late 2020 Lumumba launched legal action against Collingwood and the AFL in the Supreme Court claiming the club and the league did not provide him with a safe workplace and protect him from racial abuse. The writ was filed with the court but never served on Collingwood or the AFL.
Lumumba said the recordings were made before he departed the Magpies in acrimonious circumstances at the end of 2014 and they appear to support hisprevious claims that he was accused of throwing McGuire “under the bus”.
Lumumba first aired the claim that Buckley had accused him of throwing the president under the bus in his 2017 documentary and then on Twitter.
In the audio,Buckley can be heard accusing Lumumba of undermining McGuire when he challenged him on the King Kong reference McGuire made about Sydney champion Adam Goodes just days after the former Swan was vilified by a Collingwood supporter in a game at the MCG.
“You threw him under the bus. You threw him under the bus, mate,” Buckley said.
