Amid four days of national celebrations to honour her unprecedented 70 years on the throne, the Queen appeared in front of hundreds of thousands of Britons along with her family following the annual Trooping of Colour and military parade.
A spokesman said:“The Queen greatly enjoyed today’s Birthday Parade and Flypast but did experience some discomfort.
“Taking into account the journey and activity required to participate in tomorrow’s National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral,Her Majesty with great reluctance has concluded that she will not attend.
“The Queen is looking forward to participating in tonight’s Beacon lighting event at Windsor Castle and would like to thank all those who made today such a memorable occasion.”
Just weeks ago there was doubt she would be able to take part at all after she cancelled a string of traditional appearances, including the state opening of parliament, over what the palace described as “episodic mobility issues”.
