Negotiations were underway before the Metro station at Woolloongabbawas announced in the South East Queensland City Deal in March.
As part of the latest plan, the South East Busway, which runs alongside the M1,would be redirected to a new bus layover site at73 Ipswich Road, which has been bought by the state government.
Here,Metro buses could be recharged and await redirection along a choice of routes, rather than travel back to the main service site at Rochedale.
A tunnel would then continue to a new site opposite the Cross River Rail station – which is two-thirds complete – on land bounded by the South East Busway and Woolloongabba’s Reid and Stanley streets.
Bus passengers could then walk the short distance to the new railway platforms or to the future Olympic stadium.
It is the first major expansion of the renewal plan for Woolloongabba outside the 21-hectare priority development area established for Cross River Rail.
