They also wasted no time catching up with some of their oldest Sydney pals, including film producerEmma Cooper, who was among the star-studded line-up at Icebergs on Tuesday night to toast the appointment of power stylistChristine Centenera as the new editor-in-chic ofVogue Australia,as first foreshadowed in PS over a month ago.

Centenera is the partner of fellow Aussie Hollywood exportJoel Edgerton, with whom Kidman starred in the filmBoy Erased in 2018,which he also directed.

It was quite a line-up of guests, including Hollywood A-list producerLorenzo di Bonaventura, the founder and owner of Di Bonaventura Pictures, best known for producing the G.I. Joe andTransformers film series, who appears to be enjoying a holiday in Sydney.

Di Bonaventura has just wrapped up production on a big-budget television series shot in Paris in which another Aussie,Ben Mendelsohn,is playing fashion icon Christian Dior opposite Oscar winnerJuliet Binoche, playingCoco Chanel.

Centenera has spent years styling Kanye West’s fashion shows ... but he didn’t rate a mention.

Also in the room wasBaz Luhrmann’s creative right-hand and wifeCatherine Martin, who took a break from making Christmas decorations to join the celebrations with her daughterLilly,as was film directorDavid Michod and wife Mira, activewear queenPip Edwards, artistJoshua Yeldham and the actorDamon Herriman, all soaking up a Sydney Christmas.

The Icebergs party was something of a family reunion for Centenera and her four sisters, who has now been elevated to the top of the Australian fashion power structure in the wake of her predecessor Edwina McCann who has climbed higher in the Murdoch media empire.

Watching his partner address the high-powered room,Edgerton beamed with pride, taking along his director brotherNash and their parents.

But there was one famous name not mentioned that evening:Centenera’s long-time fashion buddyKanye West, now known as Ye. Centenera has spent years styling his fashion shows and helping dress his former wifeKim Kardashian.

Centenera’s close relationship with the outspoken singer has raised eyebrows after she worked on his controversial Paris fashion show that featured White Lives Matter T-shirts,the subsequent controversy boiling over when the rapper’s anti-Semitic rants were resoundingly condemned and many of his powerful friends cut ties.

Centenera has avoided making any public comment on the scandal, but a post trumpeting her involvement in the Paris fashion show remains on her Instagram feed, even after several critics chimed in questioning her association with Ye.

The Danish royals have caught up with their good friend,Sydney sailing and business identity,Chris Meehan, who certainly has the room to host them given he shelled out $18.7 million earlier this year to buy Palm Beach’s ultimate trophy home,Galeforce.

No doubt they’re relishing getting away from the dramas that have unfolded back at Amalienborg Palace after Fred’s brother,Prince Joachim, pulled a Prince Harry when his children lost their Prince and Princess titles, now forced to endure the ignominy of simply being Count/Countess of Monpezat.

The Danish royals are due to celebrate Christmas with the Crown Princess’ family, the Donaldsons. It has been five years since Mary and Fred visited with their four kids, and they clearly enjoyed reacquainting themselves with their mother’s homeland and the city where she met their father.

Soaking up the sunshine at Bondi Beach,Princess Mary caught up with her devoted bridesmaid, the author and podcasterAmber Petty. The family looked just like locals, apart from the eight-strong security detail shadowing their every move.

Alan Jones back hosting

The festive season celebrations will be for Jones’ extended family, including nieceTonia Taylor and her husband, tennis coachJustin Taylor. No doubt he could do with a little pampering.

Murdochs make waves

Lachlan andSarah Murdoch will be staying in Sydney for their Christmas celebrations, the global media power couple and their three children no doubt looking forward to some sunny days on Sydney Harbour aboard their recently acquired 42-metre motoryacht, the elegant Istros.

However, there is no word on whether freshly divorced Murdoch patriarchRupert will be migrating south any time soon,as he has been known to before – his usual destination being the sprawling family farm Cavan near Yass.

Icy Ling and the social media meltdown.

Icy Ling and the social media meltdown.

It’s been a hectic Christmas soiree season after several years of scaled down pandemic partying, but all that was eclipsed in a single social media post by Sydney influencer Icy Ling,a favourite among many Chinese Australian social media followers.

Icy,whose career started behind the cosmetics counter at Myer, copped a searing on her social feed after she dared to post about having to wait in line for a glass of free champagne, only to be given a half pour by the waiter at luxury boutique Burberry’s yuletide shindig.

According to her version of events,Icy had requested a full glass so she could “avoid coming back” to the bar throughout the event but her “reasonable request” had been “rejected”.

However, her attempts to explain her actions only infuriated her critics further, especially when she wrote:“It is true that at the publicity events the drinks are free[but] it doesn’t mean the guests can expect a worse attitude from a bartender.”

“After COVID,our service level (what Sydney was famous for in the past) in general is going down ... Businesses should be concerned.”

It’ll be interesting to see what party invites she’ll be receiving in 2023.

Designer trees and gingerbread houses

Nothing says Christmas in Sydney quite like outsourced, professionally styled Christmas trees and architecturally designed gingerbread trophy homes. But two budding entrepreneurs have cornered the pointy end of the market when it comes to Instagrammable yuletide trimmings.

Alana Arena’s Christmas tree styling company Dancer&Dasher has only been going for four years, but she’s already become a favourite of celebrities and socialites, with the haute couture trees currently installed in the homes ofSonia Kruger (adorned with huge inedible lollies),Delta Goodrem,Roxy Jacenko, chicken heiressJess Ingham and fashion influencerLaura Hazzouri.

Costing from about $4000 to up to twice that amount,Arena said this year’s largest “install” in Sydney was for a 3.65 metre tree in well-heeled eastern suburbs home.

“The business has doubled in size each year. Some clients are coming back year after year commissioning entirely new trees, giving their older trees to friends and family as gifts,” Arena told PS,saying she now employs a team of helpers and has an additional “pack away” service for when it’s time to take the tree down, for an extra fee.

“They’ve got the money to do it,and really go for it. You have your Instagrammable outfits and parties, this is an extension of that.”

ArchitectRebecca Lauren pivoted to her second love, baking, during the pandemic, and has launched a business designing and building bespoke gingerbread houses, the most elaborate costing more than $2500.

This year her smaller “Chateau” and “Manor House” models have been among the most popular, but she’s also created a one-metre-high gingerbread cathedral, which she designs with a full set of detailed plans and drawings, just as she would for an actual full-scale building.

“I’m slightly OCD about it,I’ll file walls down to make sure the joints are perfectly flush ... my dad is a structural engineer,so I’ve learnt a lot about getting this to stay standing up. I bake them all in my home,my poor husband can’t look at gingerbread ever again!”
