“I could just feel this lightning coming;I think to myself,this is probably not a good place to be,” Hawkins told 3AW.
“It was the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard in my life,it just went ‘bang’,and all of a sudden the whole box shook for about 10 seconds. I thought,‘I’ve been hit by lightning’.”
“It was nearly worse than playing on Dipper in the ’80s and not knowing where he was at a loose footy.”

Berto “Robert” DiPierdomenico,known as ‘Dipper’,represented Hawthorn from the 1970s to the 1990s.
Hawkins,a former Bulldogs player,said he was “too scared” to leave the hut but mustered the courage before realising he didn’t feel well.
“I was too scared actually get out of the box to go to my car,which was about 10 metres away,” he said.
