“Dom is doing really well considering the situation,” Cincotta told theHerald on Monday afternoon. “He’s in recovery now and the medical experts are confident he will be OK. He’ll be ready to go for the start of next season.”

The Roosters sent physiotherapist Steph Brennan,who is in England as part of the Tongan medical staff,to check up on their prized recruit in hospital. The club was awaiting details from Young’s doctors when contacted by theHerald on Monday.

Young,who was one of Newcastle’s best players on their inspired run into the finals this year,signed a four-year deal in February to join the Roosters in 2024.

England coach Shaun Wane,talking before the weekend’s 22-18 win over Tonga,downplayed the severity of Young’s condition leading up to his side’s series opener in St Helens.

“He’s in hospital with an illness[and] will be assessed next week,” coach Shaun Wane told NRL.com when asked about Young and whether he would be available for the return encounter at John Smiths Stadium next Saturday.

Team doctor Chris Brookes said Young had had an infection drained.

Young’s younger brother,Alex,has also been signed by the Roosters and recently landed in Australia to begin his time at the club.
