The jury found Hayne,35,guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent relating to non-consensual oral sex and the digital penetration of a 26-year-old woman on the night of the 2018 NRL grand final.
At a brief mention in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal in Sydney on Thursday morning,Hayne’s solicitor Phoebe MacDougall sought a four-hour hearing on Wednesday,April 3.
Asked by registrar George Galanis whether Hayne wished to appear via video link on that date,she said,“Yes,he does.”
The court heard barrister Tim Game,SC,has been briefed to appear for Hayne on appeal once again.
Hayne’s first trial ended in a hung jury and the convictions reached by a second jury in 2021 were quashed on appeal. He was released from Cooma Correctional Centre in February 2022 and faced a third trial in the NSW District Court in March and April 2023,resulting in his current convictions.
He was represented at that trial,held in Sydney’s John Maddison Tower,by high-profile silk Margaret Cunneen,SC,junior counsel Claire O’Neill and solicitor Lauren MacDougall.
