Godwin, who entered the video on crutches, didn’t say how long the expected return to sport would be,nor whether she would recover in time for the Olympics in Paris, but said it would be a long recovery.

“It’s still very fresh + I’m a little lost but trying to keep it real and show all sides of sport (even the sad, vulnerable&uncomfortable side,” she wrote in the video caption.

“It’s a long recovery, but I’ve got amazing people around me,and I’m ready to tackle it all step by step ... once I’ve been given the all clear to weight bear.”

Gymnastics Australia described Godwin’s injury,as “serious” and said it “ends her hopes of competing at a second Olympic Games”.

Godwin,a seven-time national champion, helped Australia qualify a team quota for the Olympics for the first time in more than a decade.

She competed at her first Olympic Games in Tokyo and is a two-time World Cup silver medallist.

Just last year she joined an elite band of gymnasts with a signature move being named after her. She is just the fifth Australian to have an original skill named after her in the International Gymnastic Federation’s (FIG) code of points for ‘The Godwin’,which is performed on the uneven bars.

Godwin’s injury comes after fellow gymnast Blake Rutherford – Australia’s top-ranked male trampoline athlete – also suffered an injury at training.
