Now Paniyiri engulfs the entire park and attracts more than 50,000 festival-goers across the two-day event.
“It’s all about the food, drink and dancing,” says Kastrissios, the co-chair of the volunteer organising committee.
The food, spread across 20 stalls and featuring cuisine from 11 different regions,is a drawcard.
For first-timers to the festival,Kastrissios recommends sampling loukoumades (honey puffs) and visiting the little Greek Village next to the Greek Club for souvla.

“The food stall is done by the Cypriot community,so they do a souvla, lamb or chicken, cooked over the coals for two hours, and it just melts in your mouth,” Kastrissios says.
“You almost feel like you’re in a Greek village.”
