“He’s definitely handy to have around,he filled in a number of positions. He’s 196cm compared to[Walsh’s 177cm],but he did mimic him and was sweeping out the back,” Maguire said. “He ran different things for us.

“Because of the circumstances and he had time off[through the suspension],I said to ‘Robbo’[Robinson],‘I want to bring him up and support him’. At the end of the day,he’s potentially available for the third Origin. I wanted him in the opposition because he also helped the other boys lift.”

Suaalii is keen to get one last chance to create a better Origin memory before he departs for rugby union at the end of the season. He toldNine on Friday night he had ignored the complaints from Queensland about his tackle that left Walsh concussed on the ground.

Suaalii was also abused by Queensland assistant Nate Myles as he came from the field, who was alleged to have said,‘I hope you enjoyed your debut’.

“I don’t really get angry often – I won’t react to too much,” Suaalii said. “The way I play footy is quite aggressive. I’m just trying to win. Unfortunately,I hit Reece in the head. I felt like I let the state down and my family. But at the end of the day,it[does] happen in footy. I’m just trying to move on from that now.”

Walsh is expected to be targeted again by the Blues in game two.

“I think that’s the game plan for every NRL team when they play against him,” said Blues prop Payne Haas, who plays with Walsh at the Broncos. “You have to take time away from Walshy,or he is going to carve you up.

“‘Kevvy’[Brisbane coach Kevin Walters] wasn’t happy[after game one],but that’s Kevvy,he’s like a dad to all of us. It was just a tackle gone wrong. I think Kevvie and Walshy know that.”

Referee Gerard Sutton made the trek to the mountains to help conduct the Blues’ training session. NRL clubs often use whistleblowers to help with interpretations of rules, especially around the ruck.

Liam Martin has been the Blues’ only injury concern, with the back-rower suffering a toe injury in the first half of game one. He received a painkiller at halftime, then again to take the field for Penrith last Sunday against Newcastle.

“Hopefully I can play without one[on Wednesday] as well because they’re not the funnest things,” Martin said. “It’s been nearly three weeks since I’ve done it. It should be fully healed and good to go.”

NSW fly to Melbourne on Sunday and will hold one final opposed session against the Storm’s Jersey Flegg side on Monday.
