Hours after Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced strict travel restrictions for the country,people began the mad dash home amid fears travel would only become more difficult.
Danish doctor Astrid and his wife quickly packed up their family after they were called home by local authorities.
“We’ve been called home to Denmark by the Foreign Minister. We’re doctors,so we have to go home and do our part,"he said.
“We need to be on standby if there’s a need for our services.”

He was unsure that the country would resemble the one he left.
“Its pretty chaotic. The borders are closed,they’ve called in the military to guard the borders. Everything has basically been shutdown. People are staying home from work,schools are closed.”
For New Zealand couple Roseanne and Harry,who are about to enter a period of two-week isolation,food was the main concern.
“We were actually on the Queen Mary cruise ship and opted to leave,” Roseanne said.
“So now we’re on the way home to isolate. We’ve got no food in the house because we thought we’d be here a lot longer,but it is what it is.”

“We’ve been extremely caught short. We were meant to be going back home to Germany via Singapore next Thursday,but with the closures,we had to cut our time here short and make a mad dash back today.
