A COVID-safe summer is best spent outdoors:here’s what Sydney has to offer

In a city like Sydney,the added COVID-19 risk of indoor settings need not be a reason to go without seeing your friends.

Thehealth advice suggests the best way to minimise your risk of catching viruses such as COVID-19 while socialising is to gather outdoors.

Epidemiologist Nancy Baxter agrees outdoors is safer than indoors but still recommends some precautions given the transmissibility of the Omicron variant.

“I’d say that if people want to do safe outdoor activities the thing to do is just spread things apart a little bit more than you usually would and try not to do higher risk activities ... like shouting or singing,” Professor Baxter said.

NSW Healthprohibits singing and dancing at hospitality venues,nightclubs,major recreation facilities and indoor music festivals. There’s an exemption for weddings and outdoor music festivals where patrons remain seated.
