Police have arrested a man in connection with the suspicious death of a 15-year-old boy, whose body was found in bushland south-west of Sydney on Saturday morning.

Officers have yet to formally identify the body, found near Wilton Park Road,Wilton,at 7.25am. They believe it is that of a teenager local to the area and have notified his family.

“Following a public appeal for information,a 32-year-old man was arrested after presenting himself at Narellan police station shortly after 4pm,” NSW Police said in a statement on Saturday.

“No charges have yet been laid and inquiries are ongoing.”

At a press conference held an hour earlier, acting Superintendent Tim Calman told reporters that, while the death was being treated as suspicious,no suspects or possible motives had been identified.

“The information that we have at this stage is that there may have been a group that were camping in that area, and we believe that persons associated with that camping event may have been involved,” Calman said.

Police believe the boy had been camping with the group, which included “perhaps a dozen” people, and officers were interviewing a number of witnesses.

“It’s probably too early to speculate whether it’s intentional or an accident,” Calman said.

Police believe the boy may have died after an incident on Friday evening, but they only received a call regarding the boy’s welfare on Saturday morning from a witness in the area.

The boy was not known to police and had not been reported missing.

Calman said there was evidence to suggest the boy had died close to where his body was found,in a location only accessible by Wilton Park Road, which is now closed.

Camden police secured a crime scene. Detectives from the area and the homicide squad are involved in the investigation.

Anyone with information,or who has been in the area since 6pm on Friday and may have relevant dashcam/mobile phone footage,is urged to contact Camden police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
