After listing 16 jobs in the previous three months,a total of 21 were then advertised by the CCC across August to fill existing roles vacated by staff and positions within a new strategy division.
“Work has commenced on the renewal process and the CCC has already acted on implementing a number of the[Fitzgerald] recommendations,” a spokesperson for the agency said.
In recent weeks,CCC chair Bruce Barbour told his parliamentary oversight committee work had already begun to reshape the agency after.
“We are now building improvements based on the recommendations contained in that inquiry, the Fitzgerald-Wilson inquiry, and then others that no doubt may impact the commission moving forward such as and also,” he said.
The CCC is also preparing to commission an external review of its corruption complaint assessment practices, called for by the PCCC’s Logan inquiry.
Barbour said that to oversee such change, the agency had already abolished its strategy insights and innovation division,to be replaced by a new one labelled “strategy and renewal”.
The division will be led by one of the new director roles advertised last month. Others include executive directors for the operations and legal arms of the corruption unit, alongside a risk and human resource focused director positions.
“The new structure in the commission, which we have been working on ever since the Logan inquiry,is very much focused on making sure we have this renewal focus, that we are focusing on improving our systems, focusing on improving the capabilities and really understanding what the capabilities are that are required in the corruption space and not just having a single focus on law enforcement capability,” Barbour said.
Fitzgerald and fellow former judge Alan Wilson QC recommended CCC officers seek advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions before pressing charges, and a boost to the number of civilians on the team to help avoid the potential influence of seconded police officers.
Amid the task of juggling the fallout of the several completed and looming reviews, the CCC is also preparing to fight for the ability to,along with relating to former deputy premier Jackie Trad and efforts to.
