The MCG is expected to host the public service although Warne’s manager,James Erskine, said this had not yet been confirmed.
“But where else?” said Erskine, referring to the fact the MCG was the scene of some of Warne’s greatest cricketing exploits.
A date has not been chosen as Warne’s family waits for his body to be returned to Melbourne following his in Thailand on Friday night.
Broadcaster Eddie McGuire,a friend of Warne, has been suggested as a possible master of ceremonies.
“There’s been no date set and no MC decided, but it could be Eddie or someone from Fox Sports,” Erskine said.
“The date will then define who can be there.”
Sources said Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews wanted to attend the state funeral and were working to find a suitable date with Warne’s family.
Sporting identities and celebrities are expected to travel from all over the world to farewell Warne, who was hugely popular in England and Asia.
The Australian men’s cricket team, many of whom would want to attend,is in Pakistan, but this is not expected to influence the timing of the state funeral.
The cricket world is still in shock following the deaths of Warne and on the same day.
The Western Australian government has offered Marsh a state funeral.
Cricket Australia, the state cricket associations of Victoria,Western Australia and South Australia, along with St Kilda Cricket Club, where Warne played, are likely to meet later this week to discuss commemorations for the two legends of Australian cricket.
