"He has to pay for his crime,"Mr Steenkamp,73,said of Pistorius, whom he found very difficult to forgive.
Mr Steenkamp said he believed that his daughter and Pistorius probably had an argument before he fired four hollow-point bullets through the bathroom door at his home in the early hours of Valentine's day in 2013. The athlete has testified that he thought she was an intruder in his house.
"I personally think that there was an argument,"Mr Steenkamp said, trembling and battling to hold back tears."She must have been in so much fear and pain, that is what I think of all the time,I visualise that I can see it myself. It must have been absolutely and utterly awful."
